Our Story

Barbara Stewart Interiors began in 1952 as an Artist Studio and evolved into a small custom framing shop founded by Barbara Stewart, built on a simple but powerful idea: help people surround themselves with things they love.

Today, that legacy continues under the leadership of her daughter, Susan Hoechner, carrying forward the same passion for beauty, quality, and personal connection.

What started as a single service has grown into a destination for home décor, gifts, bridal registry, and interior design, but our purpose has never changed. We are here to help you create a home and a life filled with meaning.

Susan Hoechner

As the daughter of Barbara Stewart, Susan Hoechner was immersed in art and design from an early age, shaping her belief that a home should reflect the people who live in it. A Bowling Green native and graduate of Western Kentucky University’s Interior Design program, she built her career in both residential and commercial design before returning to Barbara Stewart Interiors in 1994.

Today, Susan leads the business with a passion for helping clients create homes that are beautiful, meaningful, and uniquely their own carrying forward her mother’s legacy while inspiring a new generation.

Cheryl Donison

With over 30 years of retail experience, Cheryl brings a passion for service and a genuine love of helping customers find something truly meaningful. Since making Bowling Green home in 2016, she has embraced Southern hospitality and the joy of personal connection.

An avid knitter with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, Cheryl is highly detail-oriented and plays an essential role both on the sales floor and behind the scenes. She manages our inventory and oversees online sales, helping keep our store running smoothly in every aspect.

Lillian Welch

A graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, Lilianna brings both creativity and versatility to our team. Originally from Henderson, Kentucky, she is a valued part of our daily operations—assisting customers on the sales floor, working in our custom frame shop, restoring antique frames, and helping with the installation of art and furnishings. Lilianna’s attention to detail and passion for design make her an integral part of the Barbara Stewart Interiors experience.

Beverly Dalton is a valued member of our team and a true asset to the store. Gifted in floral design, she has a natural talent for creating beautiful arrangements and bringing creative ideas to life. Beverly loves working closely with customers, especially when helping with special requests, and is dedicated to making each experience personal and memorable.

Stewart Harris Davidson

We’re delighted to welcome Stewart Harris Davidson back to our team after 30 years in Alabama. A graduate of the University of Alabama and mother to Lilly and Harris, Stewart brings warmth, creativity, and a true gift for connection—she’s never met a stranger. In addition to assisting customers on the sales floor, Stewart specializes in creating thoughtfully designed stationery and invitations that make every occasion feel truly special.

Jenny Bunch

Originally from Florida, Jenny Bunch now calls a farm in Warren County home, where she enjoys caring for her family, her husband Ross, and her beloved horses. With a background in retail specializing in furnishings and décor, Jenny brings both experience and a keen eye for style to our team. She is a valued member of the store, known for her steady, organized presence—helping keep us all on track while providing thoughtful, attentive service to our customers.
